Periodically we will post video taken during classes at BASIS Charter School. The intent is to show more of the classroom activity than was possible in the documentary The 21st Century Solution – www.2Mminutes.com. This video is of the 9th grade World Literature Class. The course is one of two English classes BASIS freshman take – the other being Writing and Critical Analysis (a class in the nuts and bolts of writing, grammar, and rhetoric). The World Literature class is designed to be a survey of literature from the ancient/classical period to the 20th century. The course is discussion-based and Socratic in emphasis. The aim is to get students to tackle the big, interpretive questions of literature and to move away from simple comprehension and summary of the material.
Please do not Shakespeare. . . Already in the curriculum. I like it? To something more? S modern and attractive to all ability levels of students.
