American Lit would focus soley on American works, whereas World Lit would expand the focus of study to works from different parts of the world.
I think World Lit might be a bit more difficult, but also more interesting, although there are some great American writers out there too.
Hope that helps.
Good luck to you!

American literature and world literature are different because of where they come from. World literature can really be anything from another culture, but it is usually used to refer to Eastern and/or Global Southern literature.
I suppose we study American lit to learn about our own culture and history, whereas we study world lit to gain a broader perspective on what we have in common and how we are different as a species across different cultures. I would take world lit because we all take American at some point, and there are not many chances to take something like world lit.
Hope this is helpful:)

Look at the requirements for your college or alternate college. See if they require or recommend a certain course. See if either course fulfills other requirements like citizenship or international horizons.
I personally would prefer American Lit because it is easier to understand your own culture.
World Lit would probably do you better since it is probably what a lot of colleges need.
Take the one that fits into your schedule best. Do you have to take a second semester of it? If so you can take the one your school offers the most of so that you can fit it into your schedule easier in spring.
Good Luck
