Why should college students read Beowulf in a World Literature class?

This is for a task that I have to act like the teacher’s book, and assign students to read in a world class Letteratura.Mi asked if there was any specific reason that someone has to read Beowulf

    Your question is not clear. Any educated person should read Beowulf because it is a great classic of literature.

    Read Beowulf yourself, then you will know those specific reasons.

    Probably because it is hailed as one of THE best examples of old English literature without which the English language would not be what it is today and interesting ideas my come up when reading what is written today and what was back then.

    I think that’s the only reason why :)
